Day 4 - Setting the scene for appearance in Bhaum Vrindavan
Hare Krsna! Chanting is taking place from 772 locations. Gaur Premanande Haribol! Jai Sri Radhe Shyam! These are the days dedicated to Radha and Shyam. Radhastami is approaching. Radhastami Mahotsav ki jay. We are all excited and are eagerly waiting for Radhastami.
Radharani appeared in Raval, but we should all wish that She appears in the courtyard of our hearts. The emotion of Radharani is equal to the appearance of Radharani. We pray, “Oh Srimati Radharani, who is mercy personified, please have mercy on me.”
karuṇāḿ kuru mayi karuṇā-bharite
O You who are filled with compassion! O You whose divine characteristics are described by the great sages Sanaka and Sanatana! O Radha, please be merciful to me![Radhe Jaya Jaya Madhava Dayite song verse 3 by Rupa Goswami]
We are praying to get the mercy of Radharani. Attaining Srimati Radharani's mercy is as good as attaining Srimati Radharani. Srimati Radharani is non-different from Her mercy. We get Srimati Radharani's mercy. We are getting to hear about Her pastimes. It means that Srimati Radharani has appeared in our lives, in our hearts.
Srimati Radharani also has 1000 names. We recite them daily by saying Hare Hare. We must attentively chant the names of Radha and Krsna/Hare and Krsna. Of course, where there is Radha there is Krsna. Keep on reciting their names. This is the only way in Kaliyuga.
When we say Hare Hare, we have a mood that, “Oh Radharani have mercy that I can hear, see and relish your pastimes with Krsna. When we say Hare, Hare ...
sva-presthena saha svabhista-lilam sravaya
Oh Hara, Radha! Give me the opportunity to hear about your own favourite pastimes with Your beloved Lord.[ Meaning of Hare Krsna Mahamantra by Gopal Guru Goswami]
he hare, sva-presthena saha svabhista-lilam darsaya
Oh Hara, Radha! Reveal to me your intimate pastimes with Your beloved Lord.[ Meaning of Hare Krsna Mahamantra by Gopal Guru Goswami]
This is the prayer that we must do when we are chanting the maha-mantra.
Hare Krsna Hare Krsna
Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare
As soon as we say Hare, the name of Radha, automatically Krsna becomes pleased that this devotee is chanting the name of My Radha. Similarly when we say Krsna then Srimati Radharani becomes pleased. They are pleased by the chanter. The holy name is most pure, and maintaining its purity, we must chant. Maintaining its purity means offenseless chanting.
aparadha-sunya hoye loha Krsna-nama
Chant Krsna's name without offense.[Nadiya Godrume Song verse 3 by Bhaktivinoda Thakura]
Such Chanting of the name, which does not lead the offense to devotees...
jive-doya, name-ruchi, vaisnava-sevana
We develop interest and attachment for the holy name when we show mercy on other entities and when we do Vaishnava Seva-serving the Vaishnavas. Without seva Radha and Krsna don't become happy. Only then we can develop that attraction for the holy name. The pastimes of Radha Krsna are going on only in Goloka Vrindavan, not in Goloka Mathura or Goloka Dvaraka.
One day, Radha and Krsna were going to meet each other. Their meeting was already planned. But Srimati Radharani kept waiting for Him very long patiently, and Krsna didn't come. Then she sent one of Her servants to find out where Krsna was so busy that He forgot or could not come to meet Srimati Radharani. The spy servant went and returned with unpleasant news. She said that Krsna was busy meeting another gopi named Viraja. Pastimes of Krsna and Viraja gopi were going on. Radharani was extremely angry now, and she decided to intrude in the Kunja where Krsna and Viraja were playing pastimes. When Srimati Radharani reached there, Sridama was guarding the entrance there. He stopped Srimati Radharani from entering. But since She was so furious, they started quarrelling. Both were firm on their parts, Srimati Radharani was so angry that she asked the Gopis to bring sticks and asked them all to beat and arrest Sridama. Still, he was firm, but then somehow Srimati Radharani succeeded in entering the Kunja. Well, Krsna was listening to this conversation between Srimati Radharani and Sridama. He got to know that She was anyhow going to enter so He asked Viraja to take her form of a river. Viraja is a river, a very huge and popular river. She separates the material world from the spiritual world. When Radharani entered She could not find Viraja. She searched, but Viraja had turned into a river so She couldn't find her. She returned. She was still angry and returned to her Kunja. Now Krsna was going to Radharani's Kunja and Sridama also followed Him. He was coming with some plans to convince Srimati Radharani and pacify Her anger, but before He could utter a word She started asking Him to leave. She said, “You go to Viraja. You love her, so go to her.” It was transcendental, love conversation. It's not material anger. This is not material love like people experience in this material world. It is difficult to understand. We are fallen, souls. We compare these with us.
Everyone thinks the whole world is like him.
The love of Radha and Krsna is not at all like this. This to be made clear. Misunderstanding should not be there, else we will end up committing offenses. One has to understand that this is transcendental love. The materialistic, less intelligent people see this as ordinary mundane love. This topic is considered to be confidential and is not discussed with all. Such pastimes of conjugal love- Madhurya pastimes are discussed in the 10th Canto. We are prepared in the first 9 cantos. First, we have to know the name, form, qualities, and pastimes of the Lord, so that we can rightly understand the love of Radha and Krsna. Here this anger of Srimati Radharani is transcendental.
dhyayato visayan pumsah
sangat sanjayate kamah
kamat krodho 'bhijayate
While contemplating the objects of the senses, a person develops attachment for them, and from such attachment lust develops, and from lust anger arises.[ BG 2.2]
When our desire is not fulfilled or takes too long to get fulfilled, then we become angry. Whatever Srimati Radharani was saying to Sri Krsna was out of this transcendental love.
janma karma ca me divyam
This was being heard by Sridama, who is the elder brother of Radharani. They started quarrelling. Sridama was advocating for Krsna, and Srimati Radharani thought he was being biased so she got angry with him. They started cursing each other. Here Sridama said, “Just because Krsna delayed meeting You, You are overreacting in such a way then I curse You that You have to leave this Goloka Vrindavan and go to the material world and be away from Krsna for 100 years. In response, Srimati Radharani cursed Sridama, “Since you are behaving like a demon, you shall go and become a demon when Krsna will play his pastimes on earth.” So like this setting the scene takes place. This incident became the cause of the appearance of Srimati Radharani and Krsna. She also said, “I won't go to a place where there is no Vrindavan, no Yamuna, no Govardhan.” Krsna manifested all of them from Goloka to this place in Vrindavan before They came to play Their pastimes here. We should also understand that the Dhama is eternal. It's not like it is manifested. Everything is Lila [Prakat Lila] of theLord. Radha and Krsna appeared. Krsna appeared in Gokul and Radharani in Raval. These curses were fulfilled 5000 years ago when Krsna and Radha played Their pastimes on this planet. Sridama became a demon called Shankhacuda and he also appeared as the brother of Srimati Radharani as he is in Goloka Vrindavan.
You shall chant remembering these pastimes. This is history. You shall remember Them while chanting. You got to know more pastimes to remember and to think upon - do manan.
