Speaker: H.H. Loknath Swami Maharaj Date: 2nd Jan 2026 Theme: Śrī Gaura-Gaṇoddeśa-Dīpikā: The Identities of Lord Chaitanya Mahāprabhu’s Associates Welcome to all of you in the Zoom Mandir. Today, I would like to introduce you to a book called Śrī Gaura-Gaṇoddeśa-Dīpikā, which I will briefly explain. The author of this book is Śrī Kavi Karṇapūra, who is an associate of Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. To understand God, śāstra is necessary. Only God inspires different people—devotees and saints—to write such books. The speciality of this book is that Kavi Karṇapūra explains that there were many different associates of Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. kṛṣṇa-varṇaṁ tviṣākṛṣṇaṁ sāṅgopāṅgāstra-pārṣadam yajñaiḥ saṅkīrtana-prāyair yajanti hi su-medhasaḥ (SB 11.5.32) Translation: In the Age of Kali, intelligent persons worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly chants the names of Kṛṣṇa. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Kṛṣṇa Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons, and confidential companions. Who are the associates in Kṛṣṇa-līlā? Who are they in Gaura-līlā, the līlā of Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu? Jaya Śrī-Kṛṣṇa-Chaitanya Prabhu Nityānanda, Śrī Advaita Gadādhara Śrīvāsādi-Gaura-bhakta-vṛnda. The group of devotees of Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu was formed. They are known as the Pañca-tattva. Then there is the Ṣaḍ Gosvāmī Vṛnda. There are also different groups of associates of Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu from Māyāpur and Jagannātha Purī. In Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa’s mādhurya-līlā, there is a category known as manjarīs. Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa and six prominent manjarīs are described. These six manjarīs appear in the form of the Ṣaḍ Gosvāmīs during the time of Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. The principal among them is Śrī Rūpa Gosvāmī. In Gaura-līlā, he is Rūpa Gosvāmī. In Kṛṣṇa-līlā, he is Rūpa Mañjarī. Thus, Rūpa Mañjarī becomes Rūpa Gosvāmī. Then there are other manjarīs who become Gosvāmīs in Chaitanya Mahāprabhu’s līlā. In Kṛṣṇa-līlā they are female, but in Gaura-līlā they appear as male. We sing: Jaya Sacinandana, Jaya Sacinandana, Jaya Sacinandana Gaura Hari. Yaśodā in Kṛṣṇa-līlā becomes Śacī Mātā in Gaura-līlā. Yaśodā-nandana becomes Sacinandana. And Nanda Mahārāja of Kṛṣṇa-līlā becomes Jagannātha Miśra. Pañca-tattva In Pañca-tattva: ● Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu is Kṛṣṇa ● Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu is Balarāma ● Śrī Advaita Ācārya is Mahā-Viṣṇu ● Śrī Gadādhara Paṇḍita is Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī ● Śrī Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura is Nārada Muni In Pañca-tattva, on the left side of Chaitanya Mahāprabhu is Gadādhara Paṇḍita, who is Śrī Rādhā. When we see Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa, Rādhārāṇī is always on the left side of Kṛṣṇa. In the middle of Pañca-tattva is Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. On the right side is Nityānanda Prabhu, who is Balarāma. Śrīvāsa Paṇḍita is a very great personality. This Nārada Muni appeared in the form of Śrīvāsa Paṇḍita. Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu began His movement from the house of Śrīvāsa Paṇḍita. Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī was the author of Chaitanya-charitāmṛta. In Kṛṣṇa-līlā, he was Kastūrī Mañjarī. There are innumerable manjarīs. He wrote Chaitanya-charitāmṛta. He has done so many favors for us. Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu had two marriages. One wife was Lakṣmī Priyā, and the other was Viṣṇu Priyā. Lakṣmī Priyā was Rukmiṇī. Viṣṇu Priyā was Bhū-devī. This understanding is obtained from Kavi Karṇapūra’s book, Gaura-Gaṇoddeśa-Dīpikā. Baladeva hoilo Nitāi. In the Tota-Gopīnātha Temple of Jagannātha Purī, there are deities of Balarāma, Revatī, and Varuṇī. In Gaura-līlā, Revatī becomes Jāhnavā Mātā. Balarāma’s second wife, Varuṇī, becomes Vasudhā Mātā. Chand Kāzi In Gaura-līlā, the role of Chand Kāzi was played by Kaṁsa. However, in Gaura-līlā, Chaitanya Mahāprabhu did not kill him. Instead, through His compassion, Mahāprabhu brought a revolution in his heart. Those who opposed saṅkīrtana and tried to stop it—Mahāprabhu transformed Chand Kāzi into a supporter of the saṅkīrtana movement. Chand Kāzi was born in a Muslim family, but after his death, a samādhi was built. All Gaudiya Vaiṣṇavas go there for darśana and parikramā. In this way, Chaitanya Mahāprabhu made Chand Kāzi a loving devotee. Rāmānanda Rāya When Chaitanya Mahāprabhu traveled to South India, he reached Andhra Pradesh. On the banks of the Godāvarī River, He met Rāmānanda Rāya and gave him a special darśana. Śrī Kṛṣṇa Chaitanya, Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa nahe anya. Chaitanya Mahāprabhu revealed His form as Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa to Rāmānanda Rāya. rādhā kṛṣṇa-praṇaya-vikṛtir hlādinī śaktir asmād ekātmānāv api bhuvi purā deha-bhedaṁ gatau tau caitanyākhyaṁ prakaṭam adhunā tad-dvayaṁ caikyam āptaṁ rādhā-bhāva-dyuti-suvalitaṁ naumi kṛṣṇa-svarūpam (CC 4.55) Translation “The loving affairs of Śrī Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are transcendental manifestations of the Lord’s internal pleasure-giving potency. Although Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are one in Their identity, They separated Themselves eternally. Now these two transcendental identities have again united, in the form of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya. I bow down to Him, who has manifested Himself with the sentiment and complexion of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī although He is Kṛṣṇa Himself.” Rāmānanda Rāya is Viśākhā in Kṛṣṇa-līlā. Lalitā, Viśākhā, and other sakhīs form the sakhī-vṛnda. By the way, Arjuna was also present—there is such an understanding. Rāmānanda Rāya’s father was Bhavānanda Rāya. Chaitanya Mahāprabhu told him, “You are Pāṇḍu.” Bhavānanda Rāya had five sons. One was Rāmānanda Rāya, who is Arjuna. The other four sons correspond to the other Pāṇḍavas. However, primarily, Viśākhā’s identity is accepted by Kavi Karṇapūra. Now we were speaking about Viśākhā. The sakhī who always stays with Viśākhā is Lalitā. Lalitā Sakhī appears as Svarūpa Dāmodara. When Chaitanya Mahāprabhu reached Jagannātha Purī after completing His Madhya-līlā, He stayed in Gambhīrā. Gambhīrā is a place in Jagannātha Purī. At that time, Chaitanya Mahāprabhu stayed there with two associates: Svarūpa Dāmodara and Rāmānanda Rāya. adha-krsna-pranaya-vikrtir hladini-saktir asmad ekatmanav api bhuvi pura deha-bhedam gatau tau chaitanyakhyam prakatam adhuna tad-dvayam chaikyam aptam radha-bhava-dyuti-suvalitam naumi krsna-svarupam (CC Adi-lila 1.5) Translation: The loving affairs of Śrī Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are transcendental manifestations of the Lord’s internal pleasure-giving potency. Although Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are one in Their identity, previously They separated Themselves. Now these two transcendental identities have again united, in the form of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya. I bow down to Him, who has manifested Himself with the sentiment and complexion of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī although He is Kṛṣṇa Himself. When Chaitanya Mahāprabhu resided in Gambhīrā, He was fully absorbed in Rādhā-bhāva. Therefore, those who stayed with Him—Svarūpa Dāmodara and Rāmānanda Rāya—are Lalitā and Viśākhā, the closest associates of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. Lokānātha Gosvāmī We glorify the six Gosvāmīs “vande rupa-sanatanau raghu-yugau sri-jiva-gopalakau”. But there are also two more Gosvāmīs: Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī and Lokānātha Gosvāmī. These are counted among the Aṣṭa Gosvāmīs. Mañjulālī Mañjarī from Kṛṣṇa-līlā appears as Lokānātha Gosvāmī in Gaura-līlā. Advaita Ācārya Advaita Ācārya was around fifty years old, and Chaitanya Mahāprabhu was His disciple. He belonged to the elder group. Jagannātha Miśra, the father of Chaitanya Mahāprabhu, was of the same age as Advaita Ācārya and Śrīvāsa Paṇḍita. Nāmācārya Haridāsa Ṭhākura Śrī Haridāsa Ṭhākura is Brahmā. From Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Maheśa appear.Chaitanya Mahāprabhu made him Nāmācārya. Brahmā is the creator and also an ācārya. There are four Vaiṣṇava sampradāyas, and one is the Brahmā Sampradāya. Gaudiya Vaiṣṇavas belong to this sampradāya. Brahmā appeared during the time of Chaitanya Mahāprabhu as Haridāsa Ṭhākura. Mahāprabhu awarded him the title of Nāmācārya. He used to chant three lakh holy names daily. By studying this, we can understand clearly that Śrī Krishna Chaitanya Mahāprabhu is Kṛṣṇa Himself. Chaitanya Mahāprabhu inspired many devotees, and many books were written. One such book is Gaura-Gaṇoddeśa-Dīpikā by Kavi Karṇapūra. He explained who is who. Literature is infinite, and we must take time to study it. Today, we have increased our study of Gaura-Gaṇoddeśa-Dīpikā, to understand who were in Kṛṣṇa-līlā and who they became in Chaitanya-līlā. New Year Message: True Happiness in Krishna Consciousness: The Message of Lord Chaitanya This is the beginning of this year from my side. Japa Talk is also happening. So, I wish you all a Happy New Year from my side. I wish you a very Happy Krishna Conscious Year. I would also like to remind you that this year is 2026. This is the 60th year of the establishment of ISKCON. This is the 60th anniversary year of ISKCON. You all must be remembering that in 1966, ISKCON was established. So, in 2026, this will be the 60th year. There is a lot to be done in this 60th year, and ISKCON officials are making many plans. How can we make this whole year a special year? Many plans are being made to celebrate this year. Gradually, you will receive all the information. Get ready. By doing this, we will become even happier. So we, the people of Hare Krishna—or I personally—wish you all a Happy New Year. These are our good wishes. We do not just say this or write this, but we, the people of Hare Krishna, also tell you how you can really be happy. The people of the world keep saying, “Happy New Year, Happy New Year.” But forgive those fools—what does happiness actually mean? What is happiness? Who should be happy? Drink alcohol and be happy? Go to a party and be happy? Do whatever you want and be happy? The world does not even understand the definition of happiness. Who should truly be called happy? You are becoming a devotee of Hare Krishna. You are becoming a disciple of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a disciple of Śrīla Prabhupāda. You are becoming our disciple. You are becoming a disciple of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. So first understand: what is happiness? How can we really be happy? If we become happy, we should always remain happy. The happiness we get from the world also brings sadness along with it. We do not get only happiness. It is a trick. It is a delusion. So, in short, as Śrīla Prabhupāda used to say, chant Hare Krishna and be happy. Watch a movie and be happy? Till date, no one has become happy by watching a movie. No one has become happy by eating meat or fish, or by enjoying the pleasure of maithuna. Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 2.3.17 āyur harati vai puṁsām udyann astaṁ ca yann asau tasyarte yat-kṣaṇo nīta uttama-śloka-vārtayā Both by rising and by setting, the sun decreases the duration of life of everyone, except one who utilizes the time by discussing topics of the all-good Personality of Godhead. Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 2.3.18 taravaḥ kiṁ na jīvanti bhastrāḥ kiṁ na śvasanty uta na khādanti na mehanti kiṁ grāme paśavo ’pare Do the trees not live? Do the bellows of the blacksmith not breathe? All around us, do the beasts not eat and discharge semen? Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 7.9.45 yan maithunādi-gṛhamedhi-sukhaṁ hi tucchaṁ kaṇḍūyanena karayor iva duḥkha-duḥkham tṛpyanti neha kṛpaṇā bahu-duḥkha-bhājaḥ kaṇḍūtivan manasijaṁ viṣaheta dhīraḥ Sex life is compared to the rubbing of two hands to relieve an itch. Gṛhamedhis, so-called gṛhasthas who have no spiritual knowledge, think that this itching is the greatest platform of happiness, although actually it is a source of distress. The kṛpaṇas, the fools who are just the opposite of brāhmaṇas, are not satisfied by repeated sensuous enjoyment. Those who are dhīra, however, who are sober and who tolerate this itching, are not subjected to the sufferings of fools and rascals. In your city or village, there is no absence of eating or mating. Animals and birds also eat a lot. And maithuna destroys strength and vitality. This maithuna-sukha is described as tuccham, insignificant. Prahlāda Mahārāja says that this maithuna-ānanda is insignificant. So, read Śrīla Prabhupāda’s books and be happy. Distribute his books and be happy. And keep honoring Krishna prasādam and be happy. There is happiness in honoring Krishna prasādam, but there is even more happiness in distributing prasādam, in feeding others. Stay engaged like this—keep joining this Zoom Mandir, do japa, listen to Japa Talks, and be happy. We guarantee happiness. Go out on the streets, perform Nagara Saṅkīrtana, and be happy while making others happy. Others will also become happy by hearing kīrtana. So participate in Nagara Saṅkīrtana or a one-day padayātrā. Do something like this. Be happy and make others happy. Basically, we worry too much about the happiness and sadness of the body. We take care of the body. Be healthy, but at the same time, take care of your soul. In English, we say, “Take care of yourself.” But what is the self? Taking care of yourself does not mean taking care of the body. The self is not the body; the self is the soul. So take care of your soul. A person fell into a pond and was drowning. His wife was there, and she cried, “Save my husband!” A man felt compassion and jumped into the pond. What did he bring back? He brought the man’s coat and said, “Take this, I saved your husband.” The real person drowned and died. You brought only his coat or shirt and said, “I saved him.” What did you save? The real person is gone. In the same way, we keep worrying about the body—taking care of the body, taking care of the body. But our real identity is the soul, and the world has forgotten this. So become the real person—the real soul. Live your life for the soul and be happy. Help others realize their real identity as the soul, and be happy. Chaitanya-charitāmṛta Ādi 9.41 bhārata-bhūmite haila manuṣya-janma yāra janma sārthaka kari’ kara para-upakāra So spreading Krishna consciousness is paropakāra. Share Krishna with others—this is paropakāra. You have received Krishna. If you have Krishna, share Krishna with others. krishna se tomara, krishna dite paro tomara śakati āche āmi to’ kāṅgāla, ‘krishna krishna’ boli’ dhāi tava pāche pāche Our ācārya says: if you have Krishna, give Him to others—your family, neighbors, relatives, and colleagues. Chaitanya Mahāprabhu says, “Go and give Krishna upadeśa.” Do this from this year onward. Then you will be happy, and others will also be happy. You will also be happy. So whatever your duty is, keep doing it in Krishna consciousness.
