मैं कुम्भ मेले में भाग लेने के िलए अभी प्रयाग में हूँ। आपको यह जानकार आनंद होगा िक श्री चैतन्य महाप्रभु भी कुम्भ मेले में सिम्मिलत होने के िलए प्रयागराज पधारे थे। उस समय अधर् - कुम्भ था , और वह वािषर्क माघ मेले का समय था। उन्होंने भी संगम के पिवत्र जल में डुबकी लगाई थी , परन्तु वे उससे संतुष्ट नहीं हुए , अतः उन्होंने जप और कीतर्न करना शुरू िकया - हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे। हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे।।

यहाँ गंगा और यमुना दोनों बहती हैं , परन्तु कभी भी बाढ़ नहीं आती। माघ के महीने में बाढ़ का कोई सोच भी नहीं सकता , परन्तु जब महाप्रभु ने कीतर्न और नृत्य िकया तो उससे बाढ़ आ गई। वे सम्पूणर् प्रयागराज और आस पास के क्षेत्रों में हिरनाम की बाढ़ ले आये। उस माघ मेले मेंप्रत्येक व्यिक्त हिरनाम रुपी अमृत के सागर में गोते लगा रहा था। चैतन्य महाप्रभु ने सभी को उस हिरनाम की बाढ़ में िनमग्न कर िदया था। उन्होंने इस हिरनाम को सम्पूणर् िवश्व में फैला िदया। वे अब भी जप कर रहे हैं और हम भी उनके साथ जप कर रहे हैं।

हमें स्मरण रहना चािहए , " नाम नाचे , जीव नाचे , नाचे प्रेम धन " (हिरनाम िचंतामिण १. २. ५८) अथार्त जब हम हिरनाम का जप करते हैं तो हम भौितक जगत के जीव नृत्य करते हैं, हिरनाम स्वयं नृत्य करता हैं और गौरांग महाप्रभु भी नृत्य करते हैं। हम भी आज उसी कुम्भ मेले में हैं।

प्रभुपाद भी यहाँ पधारे थे और १९७७ में मैं भी उनके साथ था। उन्होंने कहा , " हम कुम्भ मेले में कलश से छलकने वाले अमृत के िलए नहीं आते हैं , जो समुद्र - मंथन से उत्पन्न हुआ था और वही अमृत कुछ िनधार्िरत ितिथयों के िदन पुनः प्रकट होता हैं। उस अमृत को पाने के िलए लाखों व्यिक्त चाह रखते हैं। यहाँ उपिस्थत भक्तों में बहुत से ऐसे हैं जो उस अमृत वाले जल में नहाना चाहते हैं , परन्तु हम यहाँ उसके िलए नहीं आते हैं। हम यहाँ जप और कीतर्न के िलए आते हैं। हम यहाँ हरीनाम का प्रचार करने के िलए आते हैं। हम यहाँ भगवान के पिवत्र नाम की, रूप की , और लीलाओं की मिहमा बताने के िलए आते हैं। इस प्रकार हम याित्रयों के िलए अन्य प्रकार का अमृत उपलब्ध करवाते हैं। कुम्भ मेले के अमृत की नामामृत के साथ तुलना करना अपराध हैं। यह हिरनाम के प्रित ८वां अपराध है - हिरनाम को वेदों मेंविणर् त कमर् काण्ड के समान समझना। अतः इस अमृत की तुलना नहीं हो सकती परन्तु इसकी तुलना करना भी एक अपराध हैं।

शुकदेव गोस्वामी जब भागवत के माध्यम से , ' कृष्णकथामृत ' , ' नामामृत ' और ' लीलामृत ' की कथा करना शुरू कर रहे थे , उस समय वहां देवता उपिस्थत हुए। यह पद्म पुराण में श्रीमद भागवतम के माहात्म्य में विणर् त हैं। देवता उस सभा में समुद्र मंथन से उत्पन्न हुआ अमृत लेकर आये थे और उन्होंने उसे परीिक्षत महाराज को िपलाना चाहा , िजससे वे अमर हो जाए , और वे शुकदेव गोस्वामी से प्राथर्ना कर रहे थे की इसके बदले में वो उन्हें कृष्ण - कथामृत , लीलामृत और नामामृत की कथा सुनाये। जब शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने यह प्रस्ताव सुना तो उन्होंने देवताओं को वहां से तुरंत चले जाने के िलए कहा , क्योंिक उन्होंने हिरनाम के प्रित अपराध िकया था और उन्हें कृष्ण - कथामृत का वास्तिवक मूल्य नहीं पता था। उन्होंने देवताओं द्वारा लाये जाये उस अमृत को स्वीकार नहीं िकया , क्योंिक उनके पास उससे भी उच्च , िदव्य अमृत था , िजसका रसपान करने से व्यिक्त इस भौितक जगत में इिन्द्रय भोग के िलए अमर नहीं होता अिपतु यह कृष्णकथामृत आपको परम भगवान के श्री चरणों की सेवा में लगाएगा। देवताओं द्वारा प्रदत्त अमृत का पान करने से कोई स्वगर् तक जा सकता हैं और वहां पर लम्बे समय तक स्वािगर्क सुखों का भोग कर सकता हैं , परन्तु महामंत्र के जप और कीतर्न के रूप में ,इस हिरनामामृत का पान करने से व्यिक्त स्वगर् से ऊपर , इस भौितक जगत से भी ऊपर , वैकुण्ठ से भी ऊपर सवोर्च्च वैकुण्ठ" गोलोक" जाता हैं। यह आपको वृन्दावन ले जाता हैं

जहाँ आप श्री कृष्ण के चरण कमल में शरण ग्रहण करते हैं और आप सदा के िलए अपने ह्रदय के स्वामी भगवान की सेवा में सलग्न रहते हैं। अतः हमें सदैव जप करते रहना चािहए। अंततः हमें श्री चैतन्य महाप्रभु के इस वरदान की प्रािप्त हुई हैं।

यहाँ पर कई हज़ारों तम्बू लगे हुए हैं , िजससे ऐसा लगता हैं िक गंगा - यमुना के िकनारे कोई बहुत बड़ा नगर बसा हुआ हो। परन्तु इस सभी में इस्कॉन का कैं प , या चैतन्य महाप्रभु का कैं प सवर्श्रेष्ठ हैं क्योंिक यह ब्रह्म - मध्व - गौड़ीय सम्प्रदाय का प्रितिनिधत्व कर रहा हैं जो भगवद िवचारों में सबसे उत्कृष्ट िवद्यालय हैं। अन्यथा यहाँ उपिस्थत अन्य व्यिक्त ' यत मत तत पत ' (चैतन्य चिरतामृत मध्य लीला ९. ४९) में व्यस्त हैं। उनके स्वयं के कुछ िमिश्रत मत हैं , जो ज्ञान और कमर् के अनुसार िमलावटी भिक्त का प्रचार करते हैं। यहाँ कुम्भ मेले में चूँिक कई मतों का प्रचार हो रहा हैं अतः यह बहुत अिधक भ्रामक और उलझन पैदा करने वाला हैं। परन्तु जैसा िक कहा जाता हैं - " सम्प्रदाय िवहीन: , िवफ़ले मत: " अथार्त यिद आपका मत वैष्णव सम्प्रदाय के िवरुद्ध हैं तो वह िवफल हैं और उससे आपको कोई फल प्राप्त नहीं होगा। तब आपको वास्तिवक अमृत की प्रािप्त तो नहीं होगी परन्तु आप अंत में िवष प्राप्त कर सकते हैं।

जब समुद्र मंथन हुआ था तो सवर्प्रथम िवष उत्पन्न हुआ और तत्पश्चात अमृत की प्रािप्त हुई। अतः िशक्षा परंपरा के द्वारा या िवचारों के मान्यता प्राप्त िवद्यालय द्वारा प्राप्त की जानी चािहए। ऐसा न हो िक आपको छला जाए। " धमर् प्रोइिछत कैतव : , िनमर्त्स्रनम सत : "(श्रीमद भागवतम प्रारंिभक श्लोक) - शुद्ध सम्प्रदाय की िशक्षाओं के द्वारा जो कुछ भी कृष्ण के िवपरीत हैं वो बिहष्कृत होती हैं। छलावे वाले धमर् का िवचारों के प्रामािणक िवद्यालय में कोई स्थान नहीं हैं। जो भी िशक्षा प्रदान की जा रही हैं वह पूणर्रूपेण शुद्ध हैं। यथा रूप िशक्षा और यथा रूप भागवतम।

कल यहाँ भक्तों ने ६००० श्रील प्रभुपाद की पुस्तकें और ६०० ' कुम्भ - अमृत का उत्सव ' की पुस्तकें िवतिरत की। यहाँ पर बहुत बड़ी मात्रा में प्रसाद िवतरण भी हुआ। हजारों साधुओं ने पेट भरकर प्रसाद पाया। फ़ूड फॉर लाइफ इस्कॉन मुंबई द्वारा प्रायोिजत िकया गया। कुछ िचत्रावली भी प्रस्तुत की गई जो आकषर्ण का कें द्र रही। कल शाही - स्नान होगा , अतः जप करते रिहये।

I am here in Prayag to attend Kumbha-mela. You will be inspired to know that even Caitanya Mahaprabhu attended Kumbha-mela here in Prayagraj. It was an ardh-Kumbh that time. It was a yearly Magh-Mela. He did take the holy dip, but that was not satisfying. He chanted Hare Krishna Hare Krishana Krishna Krishna Hare Hare - Hare Ram Hare Ram Ram Ram Hare Hare.

Ganga is flowing here and Yamuna is also flowing, but there is no flood. In the month of Magha there is never flood. But as Mahaprabhu chanted and danced, there was a flood. He flooded the whole of Prayagraj and surrounding areas with Harinama. In that Magh-mela every one was floating in the nectar of holy name. Caitanya Mahaprabhu drowned everybody in the flood of the nectar of holy name. He continues to flood the whole world. He is still chanting and we are also chanting with him. We shall remember that. Naam nache jiva nache , nache prem-dhan. (Hari-nama-cintamani: 1.2.58) As we chant the holy name of the lord, you the living entities are dancing, the holy name is dancing ,Gauranga is dancing. We have come here in Kumbha-mela.

Prabhupada had also come, I was there with him in 1977. He said, “We do not come to Kumbha- mela , aspiring for Amrita from the Kalash, or nectar that emerged with the churning that took place and the same nectar that emerges on particular dates. There will be millions of seekers of nectar. There are already many of them gathered here to swim in that amrit. But we don’t come here for that. We come here to chant. We come here to preach the holy name of the Lord. To chant the glories of the holy names of the Lord, pastimes of the Lord, form of the Lord. By this we make another kind of nectar available to the pilgrims here. To compare the Kumbha-mela amrit with that of Namamrit is an offence. This is the 8 offence. To consider Harinama as one of the ritualistic activities mentioned in the Karma – kanda sections of the Vedas. So that nectar cannot be compared, but trying to compare also is an offence.

Sukadev Goswami was about to recite his Bhagvatam – ‘Krishna-Kathamrut’, or ‘namamrut’ or ‘Lilamrut’. The demigods had arrived at the scene. This is mentioned in the Srimad- Bhagavat mahatmya in Padma-purana. Demigods arrived with the nectar which they had derived as a result of the churning of the ocean and requested to feed King Parikshit so that he becomes immortal. They were pleading to Sukadev Goswami to give them, Krishna-Kathamrut, namamrut, Lilamrut in exchange. When Sukadev Goswami heard this proposal, he rejected it out rightly and he told them to leave the place immediately saying that they are the offenders of the holy name; they don’t understand the value of Krishna- Kathamrut. They don’t need amrit brought by demigods, as they have superior and transcendental amrit, which just doesn’t make you immortal by making you live long, to enjoy this world, but Krishna Kathamrit will give you eternal life of service unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead. By taking demigod’s amrit one may go to heaven and live long enjoying heavenly pleasures, but by drinking holy name of the Lord by the chanting of the mahamantra, you will go far beyond heaven, beyond this material existence. You will go beyond Vaikuntha. You will go to the top most Vaikuntha. You will go to Goloka, you will go to Vrindavan and you will attain the shelter of the Lotus Feet of Sri Krishna and you will remain eternally busy serving the Lord of you heart. So let us keep chanting and chanting and chanting. Finally we have received this benediction of Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

There are hundreds and thousands of camp here, like a new township on the bank of the river of Ganga-Jamuna. But among all those camps, ISKCON’s camp, Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s camp is the best, representing Brahma-madhva-Gaudiya sampradaya, which is super excellent school of thought. Otherwise every one over here is doing ‘yat mat tat path’. ( C.C. Madhya lila 9.49) They have their own opinions or diluted opinions, propagating devotion adulterated with Karma or jnana etc. Here in Kumbha-mela it is quiet confusing and bewildering with so many paths being proposed. But sampradayaa vihinaha viphale mataha. If your opinion is against Vaisnava Sampradaya , then it is ‘viphala’ or without the fruit. Then you may not get the right nectar, but may end up getting poison. As the churning was taking place, the first thing that came was poison and then came the Nectar. So teachings should come down from Parampara, or authorised school of thought. It’s not that you are being cheated. Dharma ‘projjita kaitavaha nirmatsaranam satam’. (SB. beginning verse) From the teachings of the right Sampradaya all that is anti-Krishna is kicked out. Cheating religion has no place in the authorised school of thoughts. Teachings which are presented are the purest. Teachings as it is. Bhagvatam as it is.

Yesterday devotees here distributed 6000 Prabhupada’s books, and 600 of Kumbha – Festival of Immortality’ book. There is also big prasad distribution . Thousands of Sadhus are relishing full belly , meal prasad. Food for life is supported by ISKCON Mumbai. Some dioramas are also put up which is a big attraction. The day after is Shahi-snan. So keep chanting.
