Topic: Conversation of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Raya Ramananda

Today we shall discuss about the conversation between Raya Ramananda and Caitanya Mahaprabhu. I am in Iskcon Visakhapatnam of Aandhra pradesh and this conversation took place in Raja Mandari, just a few miles away from Vizag.
When Sri Krsna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu started for South India Yatra, Srila Sarva Bhauma Bhattacharya requested Mahaprabhu to spend some time and give association to Srila Raya Ramananda whom He would meet in the way. Mahaprabhu has met Kurma brahman also at Kurma Kshetra and has instructed him to
CC Madhya 7.128:
yāre dekha, tāre kaha ‘kṛṣṇa’-upadeśa
āmāra ājñāya guru hañā tāra’ ei deśa
Translation:
Instruct everyone to follow the orders of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa as they are given in the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. In this way become a spiritual master and try to liberate everyone in this land.
Moving ahead Mahaprabhu reaches Narasimha devas Kshetra and takes darshan of Narasimha Dev. He danced and performed kirtan too. The priest offered Narasimha Dev’s garland to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and thus welcomed Him. Then Mahaprabhu proceeds further on the banks of river Godavari. He thought, oh! This is Yamuna!
Seeing A small garden, He concluded that it’s Vrindavan! He them crosses river Godavari, chants the holy name. Soon a procession arrived and Srila Raya Ramananda was sitting in a palanquin. He was accompanied by his many associates. Mahaprabhu wanted to go to meet him, but He restrained Himself. But Srila Raya Ramananda saw Mahaprabhu and ran towards Him to meet Him. Mahaprabhu knew that he was Raya Ramananda but still asked - are you Raya Ramananda?
Yes, I am the fallen Raya Ramananda. They embraced each other and both fell on the ground. But took care of each other and start to converse.
The priests who had accompanied Srila Raya Ramananda thought that our governor of Orissa, Pratap Rudra was the king. They are thinking that Raya Ramananda was absolutely normal, what had happened to them.
Srila Raya Ramanda is now speaking to Mahaprabhu. But they don’t talk much confidential there. An associate of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu came and bring Him to take prasadam.
Now Srila Raya Ramananda meets Him at night again. Mahaprabhu had come to spread the sweetness of the holy name in Gaya.
CC Ādi 7.81:
kibā mantra dilā, gosāñi, kibā tāra bala
japite japite mantra karila pāgala
Translation:
My dear lord, what kind of mantra have you given Me? I have become mad simply by chanting this mahā-mantra!
This Holy name has so much strength and taste that I am becoming mad by chanting this.
There are twelve mellow of Devotion. In these five are main and seven are confidential. Shanta, Dasya, Sakhya, Vatsalya and Madhurya are main mellows. Out of the five main mellows of Devotional service, mellow of conjugal love is the topmost which Mahaprabhu had not yet discussed.
BG. 10.9:
mac-cittā mad-gata-prāṇā
bodhayantaḥ parasparam
kathayantaś ca māṁ nityaṁ
tuṣyanti ca ramanti ca
Translation:
The thoughts of My pure devotees’ dwell in Me, their lives are fully devoted to My service, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss from always enlightening one another and conversing about Me.
Devotees meets and converse about the pastimes of Radha Krishna and take mellow from this conversation. Till now conjugal mellow is not talked about.
Raya Ramanand is Vishakha Sakhi along with other Gopis and Manjaris, this conversion of conjugal love is possible. He is the governor in Chaitanya Lila but is Vishakha Sakhi of Krsna Lila. So, Mahaprabhu is going to probe Vishakha to speak and Mahaprabhu will be the listener.
Srila Raya Ramanda would say I am a puppet in your control. I will speak as you make me speak. I am the vina that You will play. So, this most confidential conversation will take place soon.
CC Ādi 1.4:
anarpita-carīṁ cirāt karuṇayāvatīrṇaḥ kalau
samarpayitum unnatojjvala-rasāṁ sva-bhakti-śriyam
hariḥ puraṭa-sundara-dyuti-kadamba-sandīpitaḥ
sadā hṛdaya-kandare sphuratu vaḥ śacī-nandana
Translation:
May the Supreme Lord who is known as the son of Śrīmatī Śacī-devī be transcendentally situated in the innermost chambers of your heart. Resplendent with the radiance of molten gold, He has appeared in the Age of Kali by His causeless mercy to bestow what no incarnation has ever offered before: the most sublime and radiant mellow of devotional service, the mellow of conjugal love.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s causeless mercy is going to bestow this time.
Vaishnav song (Jaya Rādhe Jaya Kṛṣṇa, Jaya Vṛndāvan):
jaya jayojjwala-rasa sarva-rasa-sār
parakīyā-bhāve jāhā brajete pracār
Translation:
All glories, all glories to the mellow of conjugal love, which is the most excellent of all rasas and is propagated in Vraja by Sri Krsna in the form of the divine parakiya-bhava [paramour love].
In this conversation Mahaprabhu asks Raya Ramananda to explain the essence of the Sadhya. He says oh this is also superficial.
Raya Ramananda:
BG. 18.66:
sarva-dharmān parityajya
mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja
ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo
mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ
Translation:
Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says this is also superficial.
Raya Ramananda:
BG. 9.27:
yat karoṣi yad aśnāsi
yaj juhoṣi dadāsi yat
yat tapasyasi kaunteya
tat kuruṣva mad-arpaṇam
Translation:
Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform – do that, O son of Kuntī, as an offering to Me.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu says that is also superficial, please tell Me something more confidential. So, Srila Raya Ramananda started speaking of the Dasya Rasa, then Sakhya rasa, then Vatsalya rasa and then he starts to speak about the Madhurya Lila - conjugal loving mellow. Mahaprabhu now stops him and the conversation stops.
In another conversation, Srila Raya Ramananda now speaks about Radha Rani. These are so wonderful conversations.
All this is mentioned in CC Madhya in the 8th chapter. This chapter is so vast than other chapters. These conversations continued for 10 days.
Radha Rani is the Hladini - pleasure giving potency of Krsna. Samvit and Sandhini potencies are also discussed. Srila Raya Ramanda further explains that Radha Rani is the pleasure giving potency of Krsna.
Krishna is Sat-Cit-Anand Vigrah. The Anand aspect comes from Srimati Radha Rani. That’s why she is called Hladini Potency.
CC Madhya 8.158:
sukha-rūpa kṛṣṇa kare sukha āsvādana
bhakta-gaṇe sukha dite ‘hlādinī’ — kāraṇa
Translation:
Lord Kṛṣṇa tastes all kinds of transcendental happiness, although He Himself is happiness personified. The pleasure relished by His pure devotees is also manifested by His pleasure potency.
Radha Rani is the source of all pleasure of all entities.
CC Madhya 8.160:
premera parama-sāra ‘mahābhāva’ jāni
sei mahābhāva-rūpā rādhā-ṭhākurāṇī
Translation:
The essential part of love of Godhead is called mahābhāva, transcendental ecstasy, and that ecstasy is represented by Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī.
All entities also find shelter in the mercy of Radha Rani.
CC Madhya 8.167, 168:
kāruṇyāmṛta-dhārāya snāna prathama
tāruṇyāmṛta-dhārāya snāna Madhyama
lāvaṇyāmṛta-dhārāya tad-upari snāna
nija-lajjā-śyāma-paṭṭasāṭi-paridhāna
Translation:
Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī takes Her first bath in the shower of the nectar of compassion, and She takes Her second bath in the nectar of youth.
After Her midday bath, Rādhārāṇī takes another bath in the nectar of bodily luster, and She puts on the garment of shyness, which is Her black silk sari.
Radha Rani bathed in compassion and youth firstly. Then Radha Rani is bathed with sandalwood and camphor and She is smiling. This decoration is the love of Her associates. Radha Rani now dressed in blue saree - hence She is also known as Nilambari. Blue is Krishna’s colour and Radha Rani is molten golden in complexion and Krsna wears yellow garments and is known as Pitambar.
Once Srila Raya Ramananda asks Mahaprabhu - your complexion was not blue! It was molten gold! What happened now!
CC Ādi 3.81:
antaḥ kṛṣṇaṁ bahir gauraṁ
darśitāṅgādi-vaibhavam
kalau saṅkīrtanādyaiḥ sma
kṛṣṇa-caitanyam āśritāḥ
Translation:
I take shelter of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who is outwardly of a fair complexion but is inwardly Kṛṣṇa Himself. In this Age of Kali He displays His expansions [His aṅgas and upāṅgas] by performing congregational chanting of the holy name of the Lord.
How did it change now? Who are You?
Are you Krsna with bluish complexion or Mahaprabhu with molten gold complexion?
Cc. Ādi 1.5:
rādhā kṛṣṇa-praṇaya-vikṛtir hlādinī śaktir asmād
ekātmānāv api bhuvi purā deha-bhedaṁ gatau tau
caitanyākhyaṁ prakaṭam adhunā tad-dvayaṁ caikyam āptaṁ
rādhā-bhāva-dyuti-suvalitaṁ naumi kṛṣṇa-svarūpam
Translation:
The loving affairs of Śrī Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are transcendental manifestations of the Lord’s internal pleasure-giving potency. Although Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are one in Their identity, previously They separated Themselves. Now these two transcendental identities have again united, in the form of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya. I bow down to Him, who has manifested Himself with the sentiment and complexion of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī although He is Kṛṣṇa Himself.
Then Mahaprabhu reveals Himself to Srila Raya Ramananda as Sri Sri Radha Krishna.
So, such a darshan is possible in Vrindavan. It was shown in Kohur in Mandari.
We also went there. It also has a Gaudiya Mathh. They claim that it is south India’s Vrindavan.
Thus, Mahaprabhu wanted to stay more and more Srila Raya Ramananda. But Mahaprabhu will now proceed towards Jagannath puri, Gambhira. And on the way to Gambhira, Mahaprabhu will meet Raya Ramananda once again. And Srila Swarup Damodar will also join the conversation. Swarup Damodar is Lalita Sakhi. Maha Rasa will also be discussed further.
Srila Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami is now going to explain more about Madhurya rasa and Radha Rani. This conversation that started on the banks of Godavari, is now going to get more and more intense. This will be recorded in Chaitanya Charitamrita. Srila Prabhupada called it the PHD for devotees.
The pastimes of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is topmost and the scripture about Him, Chaitanya Charitamrita is also topmost.
BG. 7.7:
mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat
kiñcid asti dhanañ-jaya
mayi sarvam idaṁ protaṁ
sūtre maṇi-gaṇā iva
Translation:
O conqueror of wealth, there is no truth superior to Me. Everything rests upon Me, as pearls are strung on a thread.
BS. 5.39:
rāmādi-mūrtiṣu kalā-niyamena tiṣṭhan
nānāvatāram akarod bhuvaneṣu kintu
kṛṣṇaḥ svayaṁ samabhavat paramaḥ pumān yo
govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi
Translation:
I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who manifested Himself personally as Kṛṣṇa and the different avatāras in the world in the forms of Rāma, Nṛsiṁha, Vāmana, etc., as His subjective portions.
Krishna is Krishna due to His Madhurya, which is of 4 types - Rupa Madhurya, Lila Madhurya, Venu Madhurya, Prema Madhurya.
Gaudiya tradition is super excellent due to Radha and Krishna and their pastimes written in the scriptures by the acharyas.
The six Goswami also depicted the same and Mahaprabhu is none other than Sri Sri Radha Krishna.
