Vrajmandal parikrama Day 6
Krishna's reciprocation to Peacocks & Bahula cow.
Jai Śrī Rādhe!
Devotees from 778 locations are Chanting with us. The numbers are dropping. This is not good. More people should join to get the benefit. We should be enthusiastic, determinant and patient. We have to increase our sādhana. This holy month of Kārtik is very auspicious and magnanimous to get Krsna prema, kṛṣṇa-prāpti hoy jāhā ha'te.
You're all joining the Virtual Braja Mandal Parikrama sitting at home. Be thankful to those who have made this facility for all of us. If someone doesn't join even after the parikrama is made so easy then what to say? Keep joining the parikrama and let others also join. Well, yesterday the Parikrama started from Madhuban and crossed Tālavana and Kumudvana. And now it has reached the borders of Bahulāvana. It seems that these are small forests and we have crossed them in a single day but indeed they are great and powerful forests as they are a part of Vraja. First we crossed Tālavana, you all must have heard of Tālavana, a forest of Tāla trees. Similarly, Kumudvana is a forest of Kumud trees. The Lord took His friends to Tālavana and all have started eating the sweet juicy Tāla fruits. Then Gardhbasur, a demon who lived there in the form of a donkey, attacked them. He was killed and delivered by Lord Balarāma.
vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām
sambhavāmi yuge yuge
To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear, millennium after millennium. (B.G. 4.8)
We must hear the pastimes of the Lord killing the demons. It is beneficial for us. Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Thākura explains that every demon depicts some qualities which we should make sure that they are not in us. A donkey is dull headed, always longing for sexual pleasure and is over hard working. Most, if not all, of us have such bad qualities in us as well. We must pray to Lord Balarāma to free us of them. By hearing these pastimes, we can get free from such bad qualities. Daily Krsna and Balarāma would kill one or the other demon in Vraja. Therefore, you must listen to these different pastimes. You may also read the Braja Mandal Darshan book.
Further the parikrama goes to Shāntanu Kunda. There the deity is Śrī Shāntanubihari. From there, the parikrama reaches Rādhā Kunda. Rādhā Kunda is in Vrindavan, the 5th forest. Vrindavan is the Largest of all 12 forests. Parikrama would stay in Vrindavan for some time and then proceed to Kāmavana, Khādirvana and then again Vrindavan. After crossing Yamuna, parikrama would enter Bhadravana.
On the way to Rādhā Kunda, there's a village called Khechari grāma, a village of Putana. Krsna killed and delivered Putana when He was only 6 days old. Putana had two brothers, Bakāsura and Aghāsura. Bakāsura was killed in Khādirvana. Aghāsura was killed in Vrindavan, Agha means sinner. When Vajranābha, the great grandson of Śrī Krsna, was re-establishing the glorious places of Vraja on the instructions of Sage Shandilya, he named this village as Sarpoli where Aghāsura was killed. Lord killed Aghāsura when He was vatsapāla, Calf herder. Well, we are crossing this Khechari village of Putana. Khe means sky and Chari means one who travels. Therefore, One who travels through the sky routes is called Khechari.
Further on the way, comes the Mayurvana. This forest has thousands of Peacocks. Peacocks are known for their beauty of dance. Krsna and His cowherd boy friends are dancing among the Peacocks. And then there is a competition between them. Krsna is Natavar-nāgar, best of actors and dancers. Everyone is enjoying so much. All the Peacocks were overwhelmed seeing Krsna dance so beautifully. They gifted Krsna with their feathers. Krsna wore those feathers on His head and since then He is known as Mayurpich dhari. Now the Parikrama moves further to Śrī Rādhā Kunda after Bahulāvana. The Parikrama shall stay here for next few days. Since you all are doing parikrama, therefore you must stay in Rādhā Kunda mentally. It may not be as comfortable as your home. But this austerity is penance. Doing parikrama is an austerity.
nāyaṁ deho deha-bhājāṁ nṛloke
kaṣṭān kāmān arhate viḍ-bhujāṁ ye
tapo divyaṁ putrakā yena sattvaṁ
śuddhyed yasmād brahma-saukhyaṁ tv anantam
Lord Ṛṣabhadeva told His sons: My dear boys, of all the living entities who have accepted material bodies in this world, one who has been awarded this human form should not work hard day and night simply for sense gratification, which is available even for dogs and hogs that eat stool. One should engage in penance and austerity to attain the divine position of devotional service. By such activity, one’s heart is purified, and when one attains this position, he attains eternal, blissful life, which is transcendental to material happiness and which continues forever. (ŚB 5.5.1)
We can get unlimited and eternal happiness by performing austerity and doing parikrama is true austerity.
yat karoṣi yad aśnāsi
yaj juhoṣi dadāsi yat
yat tapasyasi kaunteya
tat kuruṣva mad-arpaṇam
Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform – do that, O son of Kuntī, as an offering to Me. (B.G. 9.27)
The Lord says, "Whatever austerity you may perform, offer it to Me." Therefore, Whatever austerity you are performing in parikrama, offer it to Krsna. Do it for the pleasure of Krsna. It is said that, 'No Pain No Gain'. Only if you have done some austerity, then you may get an entrance in Śrī Vrindavan.
Śrīla Rupa Goswami explains that Rādhā Kunda is the topmost place in this universe. Radharani is the best among all the gopīs. In all the moods of devotion, the mood of conjugal love is the best and topmost. The conjugal love pastimes of the Lord happens in Rādhā Kunda. Therefore, Rādhā Kunda is considered to be the best and topmost place among all the places in the universes. All the prime 8 Gopīs have their own 8 Kunjas on the bank of Rādhā Kunda. Each Kunja has its own qualities, different flowers, different seasons. There is a swinging festival and water sporting daily. Krsna along with Radharani and other Gopīs play in the waters of Rādhā Kunda. From 10:30 am to 3:30 pm (madhyan kāla, one among ashtha kālas), is the afternoon pastimes of Radha Krishna. They spend this time at Rādhā Kunda. They reside in different Kunjas. The six Goswami's used to relish the pastimes there. Raghunātha Dāsa Goswami has his samadhi there on the bank of Rādhā Kunda. Tomorrow will be Rādhā Kunda Parikrama. You will get to know more in detail then. We shall stop here now.
Rādhā Kunda ki jai!
Gaura premanande Hari Hari bol!
There is a small announcement. We all are literally in Vrindavan. We are virtually doing the Parikrama and are also getting to hear this from the transcendental mouth of Guru Maharaj. Indeed we all are in Vrindavan but as you are all already aware that after the WHNF, we had announced that in this holy month of Kārtik, we will be making videos of people offering deepdaan and chanting the Mahā-mantra. This is a reminder for this service of making deep daan videos. Tell us your Kārtika oaths.
Also after the polling for the timings of Braja Mandal Parikrama video, it has been finalised that the videos shall be released at 12 noon. There are many activities that you can do or have already pledged and are doing. You can share it here or 'Chant japa with Lokanath Swami' Facebook page. You can maintain a Kārtik Sādhana Card also, mentioning the number of videos made, whether you attended Braja Mandal Parikrama, number of rounds chanted, etc. Those who will join at least 25 days of parikrama, will get a certificate of attending parikrama.
