Worldwide Virtual Ratha-yatra
Hare Krishna. Welcome all to the Japa Talk. Devotees are participating from 770 loca-tions.
Nilachala Nivasaya Nityaya Paramatmane Balabhadra Subhadrabhyam Jagannathaya Te Namah
This is the Pranam mantra offered at the lotus feet of Lord Jagannatha, Baladeva and Sub-hadra. We can't see Their feet, but we can offer obeisances. Did you join Ratha-yatra? I joined one Ratha Yatra of ISKCON Indore and had darsana of other 4 Ratha-yatras. In Jagannatha Puri, I saw Pabandi Mahotasava. Did you see?
By the arrangement of Doordarsana, it became possible for all of us to see Ratha-yatra from our homes. Jagannatha was coming out of Simha dvara. The Lord gave His darsana and I had darsana. If the Lord doesn't give His darsana then we cannot get it. Without His mercy, we will just see Him. We will not be able to have darsana or behold Him without His Mercy. Just seeing, is not darsana.
There is a difference in seeing. We also see a dog, but we take darsana of the Lord. We glance over outwardly. Seeing the outward shape or surface is not darsana. Darsana means to behold the qualities of the Lord, His dhama, associates, pastimes with the eyes of love.
yasmin vijñāte sarvam evaṁ vijñātaṁ bhavati (Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad 1.3)
This Vedic hymn declares emphatically that the devotee of the Lord knows everything ma-terial and spiritual in relationship with the Lord. By understanding about the Lord we can understand everything about Him. This understanding is called darsana. The Lord's darsa-na is not possible with the eyes. The Lord has to be seen with the spirit soul or with the eyes of the soul. The soul is a personality and has senses. The soul has all working senses like hands, legs, etc. We can have the Lord's darsana with the eyes of the soul. When the Lord gives full and complete darsana, then Brahma-saṁhitā (5.38) says:
premāñjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena santaḥ sadaiva hṛdayeṣu vilokayanti yaṁ śyāmasundaram acintya-guṇa-svarūpaṁ govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi
Translation: I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is Śyāmasundara, Kṛṣṇa Himself with incon-ceivable innumerable attributes, whom the pure devotees see in their heart of hearts with the eye of devotion tinged with the salve of love. Vilokayanti means see.

We had Ratha-yatra in Noida. Noida temple's altar is very big. There are Deities of Lord Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra. They made a cart on their own. The Deities were seated on the small cart. They were making small rounds in the temple hall. They were do-ing kirtana very enthusiastically. Only temple devotees were there, no visitors.
There was also Ratha-yatra in Mayapur on the same path where the Shobha Yatra of Radha Madhava takes place around TOVP. There were 3 chariots.
In Jagannatha Puri there were 1000-2000 devotees . Usually we have lakhs of people in Jagannatha Puri. Instead of 5-10 lakhs, this time only 1000-2000 devotees were at the Ratha-yatra in Jagannatha Puri.
On zoom there was a virtual Ratha-yatra. Many participants from South America and other parts of world had joined. They organised Ratha-yatra very differently and in an innovative manner. Ratha reached various homes at various places. Many devotees from many different countries joined in that Ratha-yatra. They made a schedule that the Ratha-yatra will reach every home. They made a time table that the Ratha will reach this devo-tee’s home at this particular time and another devotee’s home at that time and so on. When the Ratha reached a particular place then the master of ceremonies would announce whose house the Ratha has reached. Those devotees where the Ratha has reached, offered bhoga, worshiped Him with all the paraphernalia used to offer prayers and paid obeisances to the Lord. Everything would be done in 1 minute and then they would go to the next house and then the next and so on.
In between Jayapataka Maharaja gave darsana. Initially some devotees from America sang Jagannathastakam. Then there was kirtana. This was the best use of internet facilities - in the service of the Lord. Utility is the Principle. This modern technology and facilities should be engaged in the Lord’s service. There are very intelligent devotees who think out of the box. You should also pray to the Lord, “Please gives us this intelligence for new ideas for Your service.” We have this type of educational background like Computer Science, etc. We can engage our intelligence and material education in the service of the Lord. Now this is necessary. Gradually everyone can take these ideas from the devotees from South America and implement it.
In the case of Indore Ratha-yatra, I inaugurated it. They seated Lord Jagannatha in His chariot. Then they offered Bhoga. Then they said, “Let's take the Ratha to Pandharpur on Google Map.” They started pulling the rope and took the Ratha to Pandharpur. I saw this. When the Ratha reached Pandharpur, they said, “Maharaja Please inaugurate the Ratha with your lotus hands.” I did my part and said, “We can take this Ratha to Jagannatha Pu-ri.” I showed you a presentation of Puri. So the Puri Ratha-yatra was also shown on televi-sion. In this way Ratha-yatra reached Gundicha via Pandharpur and Lord Jagannatha reached Vrindavan.
Once Radharani and Sridama, brother and sister, cursed each other. When they were in Goloka, Radharani saw that there were loving dealings taking place between Viraja and Krsna via Her spies. Viraja is a river like Yamuna. Viraja River and Krsna had some loving dealings and affairs. She asked, “Why are you coming late nowadays? You should have reached here at 10.30. But you are coming late for the last few days.” Then she got to know through Her spies that there are some loving affairs going between Viraja and Krsna.
When Radharani got to know about this she was upset and said, “Don’t come now. You are a hypocrite and lusty.” She said sharp, stinging words to the Lord. When Sridama got to know about this, what Srimati Radharani was thinking and saying to the Lord, they began fighting with each other.
The result was that Sridama cursed Radharani that whenever Your prakata lila (appearance on this planet) takes place then You will have to go through 100 years of separation from Krsna. Radharani also cursed Sridama that he will become a demon in that lila. Both of them cursed. According to this, the pastimes were performed and because of this, Ratha-yatra is taking place.
Yesterday we were reading the conversation from Caitanya Caritamrta. Radharani was saying, “ This is My misfortune that We are separated and We are not able to meet.” Lord Krsna left the Gopis and went to Mathura and stayed there for 18 years. He was supposed to come back, but he went to Dvaraka in the middle of the ocean. He began to rule and got married. He was known as Dvarakadhisha. While doing so 100 years were spent. Then it was possible to have a meeting of Radha and Krsna on Ratha-yatra day. They were free from that curse given by Sridama.
Sridama was there in 2 forms. One is Goloka's Sridama who was also there in Gokula Vrindavan. There was also Sridama in the form of a demon, Sankhachuda. When Sankha-chuda was killed then both Sridamas became one. But for a very long time, there were two Sridama’s - one a friend of Krsna in His pastimes and the other in the form of a demon.
